Steven Kakinoosit, 20, and Danita Nez, 25, are the youth behind Idle No More in B.C.

Both students at Native Education College in Vancouver, they organized Vancouver’s first Idle No More march on Dec. 10, 2012. The two continue to organize marches, teach-ins, and have meetings as their newly formed group, the Turtle Island Movement.

Among other feats since Dec. 10, Kakinoosit and Nez flash-mobbed the B.C. Chiefs Summit Meeting — telling the chiefs they need to be less talk and listen more to what the youth has to say — and, most recently, protested outside Stephen Harper’s hotel while he was staying in Burnaby Feb. 8. They started with a bang, but now they are getting some assistance from experienced activists to keep the movement going strong. Their following continues to grow as their goals do.

Below is a short documentary profiling Kakinoosit and Nez’s journey so far.
